Today, Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) became the 48th co-sponsor of S. 1067, Lord’s Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act of 2009. Introduced by Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI), the original sponsor, and Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS), original cosponsor, this bill would require President Obama to devise a comprehensive strategy aimed at preventing further LRA violence and apprehending Joseph Kony and other rebel commanders. The legislation also provides funds to support recovery and reconciliation efforts in Northern Uganda to heal the communities affected by the violence and prevent further conflict.
A companion bill, H.R. 2478, was introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA), Congressman Ed Royce (R-CA) and Congressman Brad Miller (D-NC).
