                          MEDIA ADVISORY

APRIL 27: MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, MIA FARROW, DARFUR ACTIVIST LEADERS TO PROTEST DARFUR’S DETERIORATING HUMANITARIAN CRISIS, PARTICIPATE IN CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE AT SUDANESE EMBASSY

WHAT:  More than a month after Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir expelled 13 international humanitarian aid agencies – putting millions of Darfuri civilians at risk for starvation and disease – the situation on the ground in Darfur continues to deteriorate. On Monday, April 27, actress Mia Farrow and a number of U.S. lawmakers including: Representatives Jim McGovern (D-MA), John Lewis (D-GA), Donna Edwards (D-MD), Keith Ellison (D-MN), and Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), will participate in a protest at the Sudanese Embassy with Save Darfur Coalition president Jerry Fowler, Enough Project co-founder John Prendergast and Genocide Intervention Network executive director Sam Bell. Participants will protest the Sudanese government’s ongoing genocide in Darfur and – just days before President Obama’s 100th day in office – call for action by the United States and world leaders to ensure the safety of Darfuri civilians. Participants’ civil disobedience is expected to result in their arrest.
