On January 24, in a worrying move, Kenyan authorities detained two South Sudanese activists, Aggrey Idri and Dong Samuel in Nairobi. They are affiliated with South Sudan’s political opposition and are currently at risk of being deported to Juba.
Idri is chairman of the South Sudanese opposition's humanitarian affairs committee. Samuel is a human rights advocate and has been critical of South Sudan’s government. If deported to South Sudan, their lives and safety are at immediate risk.
Enough Project along with other organizations is calling on Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his country’s security authorities to immediately release both men and nullify the deportation orders they face.
