We all need a little inspiration every now and then, inspiration we often find in films, books, and (more recently) on YouTube.
In a recent Q&A with TakePart.com, Enough Co-founder John Prendergast opened up about some of the media that has inspired him:
Q: Which film or book was a wake up call and made you truly aware of an issue?
A: As a teenager, reading To Kill a Mockingbird made me more acutely aware of the gross inequities in our judicial system. That book — and Atticus Finch’s courage in standing against injustice — never left me and inspired me to stay engaged in these issues throughout the decades since then.
Q: Which film or book inspired you to take action and get involved in an issue?
A: The film "The Killing Fields" hit me like a punch in the stomach. It came right around the time that I was becoming aware of the famine that was occurring in Ethiopia that originally motivated me to get involved in African issues. This film demanded that I not be a bystander to what was happening half a world away.
