With all that’s on the line in Sudan as the clock ticks toward national elections next year and a self-determination referendum in the South in 2011 — two major provisions of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between North and South — their conversation serves to emphasize the importance of renewed international attention to North-South relations in Sudan. It’s a great primer for understanding the current challenges in Sudan and, in particular, the significance of the recent ruling on the contested region of Abyei.
