The Enough Project joins the many voices in Sudan and world wide that have expressed their sadness and deep sense of loss at the passing of Dr. Amin Mekki Medani, a towering figure not only locally as part of Sudan’s human rights movement but also globally when he held leadership positions within the UN’s Human Rights system in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Dr. Amin also led impactful efforts at placing Sudan on a path to democratic change through his leadership role in the 1985 popular uprising and his visionary and pioneering role in creating the Civil Society Initiative as a dynamic component of the opposition Sudan Call alliance, which is pursuing the democratic transformation in Sudan and a just and lasting end to the country’s ongoing civil wars. To Dr. Amin’s family and friends, and indeed to the entire Sudanese people, we convey our condolences. The example and teachings of Dr. Amin will help keep his memory alive at home and abroad among the countless friends of Sudan throughout the world.
