On the eve of South Sudan’s independence referendum, international hip hop star Emmanuel Jal is calling out to the world to say, “We want peace,” with the help of friends like Alicia Keys, Peter Gabriel, and George Clooney.
Jal, a former child soldier during the two decades-long Sudanese civil war, is once again using his art to raise awareness of the situation in his country, this time focusing on the potential conflict that may result from the momentous vote. As part of the overall campaign—which encourages activists to reach out to heads of states—Jal and company made this music video, officially released today. (Make sure you watch until the end for a couple of extra special guests.)
