Second Annual Conference of the Coalition of Advocates for South Sudan

September 20, 2016 @ 3:30 pm

Brian Adeba, Enough's Associate Director of Policy, will be a panelist at the Second Annual Conference of the Coalition of Advocates for South Sudan. The theme of the conference is "Unity and Partnership: Supporting a Just and Sustainable Peace in South Sudan."

Purpose: To work towards the vision of a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan* that was articulated at the 1st Annual CASS Conference by continuing to build unity among the Diaspora and by training the Diaspora to advocate effectively to strengthen the partnership between South Sudan and the United States.

Background: South Sudan is trying to emerge from post-independence conflict and the future is unclear. What is certain is the positive impact a united Diaspora can have in supporting a just and sustainable peace in South Sudan, in part, by engaging effectively with the U.S. government to encourage its ongoing support of the people of South Sudan. The U.S. has been a key partner in ending violence and providing aid and support for development in South Sudan. Given the ongoing political, economic and humanitarian crises in South Sudan, U.S. engagement is critical now. The November elections will require additional effort to educate and engage new U.S. leaders.

Program: Sunday, September 25, 2016: One hundred (100) representatives from the diverse South Sudanese communities in the Diaspora and friends of South Sudan will convene to hear from experts and political and civil society leaders. They will receive advocacy training and throughout the day, identify the key asks for government officials in the U.S., South Sudan and the international community.
