“It’s A Girl” Screening and Panel

April 23, 2013 @ 5:30 pm

Shot on location in India and China, “It’s a Girl” discusses the disturbing truth that millions of girls are killed, abandoned, or selectively terminated, simply because of their gender. The longstanding traditions and governmental policies of devaluation of females have led to rampant violence against women and a growing female “gendercide.” Previously, "It's a Girl"  premiered at the European and British Parliaments and was screened three times at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

Agenda:
5:30pm – Opening Remarks by Members of Congress as a part of Press Conference. Participating Members will also be asked to sign a statement against gendercide.

6:00pm – Film (trailer and website here)

7:00pm – Panel Discussion with experts on the issue of gendercide as well as filmmakers.

  • Reggie Littlejohn, President of Women's Rights Without Frontiers (And one of the experts featured in the film)
  • Jill McElya, Co-founder of the Invisible Girl Project (a partner organization that works to prevent female infanticide in India)
  • Representative from a leading women's NGO (TBD)
  • Evan Grae Davis or Andrew Brown (the director or producer of the film, respectively)
