The EU Conflict Minerals Regulation: Perspectives from Producer Countries

On the occasion of the application of the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation (EU CMR) on January 1st 2021, a milestone event in responsible mineral sourcing, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Responsible Minerals Initiative are convening a multi-stakeholder conference to take stock of the implementation and impact of the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation, in particular through the lens of producer countries. This conference will feature interactive discussions in an inclusive multi-stakeholder spirit, engaging a global audience of public, non-profit and private sector participants, and explore the past and the anticipated impact of the long-awaited EU CMR on stakeholders in producer countries across the board.

The Sentry’s Sasha Lezhnev will present on a panel on the European Union conflict minerals legislation alongside representatives from the World Bank, the OECD, the private sector in the DRC and Rwanda.

Panel: What is the Impact of the EU CMR on Upstream Actors?
Based on the input received from participants through the live polling questions, the
multi-stakeholder panel will discuss impact of the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation on
upstream actors, followed by interactive Q&A with the audience:
