ACAMS 24+

June 3, 2020

ACAMS 24+ is a virtual global summit that will run for more than 24-hours continuously. The one-day marathon event will bring together more than 80 change-makers presenting over 24-hours of content to help financial crime prevention professionals globally mitigate and prevent illicit finance. The Sentry’s Senior Policy Advisor for the UK, Denisse Rudich, will be one of the panelists during Sanctions Session 3: Sanctions Risks to Africa and the Middle East, moderated by Justine Walker.

The session will explore how the threat and impact of sanctions pose a particular risk in the Middle East and Africa, which occupies key geographical locations; numerous sea routes, ports and major sensitive industries. Sanctions is high on the news agenda, with the geopolitical situation constantly bringing new developments. For financial institutions and corporates operating in this region navigating the compliance complexity, which can change almost daily, requires dedicated monitoring, risk- assessment and foresight. The panel will discuss the implications of the growth of human rights and corruption sanctions, political developments which underpin the Iranian and Syrian sanctions regimes, understanding the regional exposure to proliferation finance risk, and managing secondary sanctions exposure across key industries within the Middle East and Africa.
