At a March 19 press conference on Capitol Hill, a powerful line-up of prominent Darfur advocates called on President Barack Obama and his new Sudan envoy, General Scott Gration, to act on the deepening humanitarian crisis in Darfur. Participants included U.S. Representatives Jim Moran (D-VA,) Chris Smith (R-NJ,) Barbara Lee (D-CA,) Jim McGovern (D-MA,) and Donna Edwards (D-MD,) both pictured at left; actress Maria Bello; and, from the NGO community, Enough Co-founder John Prendergast, Enough Advisor Omer Ismail, Rabbi David Saperstein of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, Reverend Jim Wallis of Sojourners, and Save Darfur President Jerry Fowler. Church Communication Broadcast on Darfur, March 29
Christian activists will gather in Tipp City, Ohio, on March 29, 2009 for a forum on Darfur that will be broadcast live and without charge to churches that belong to the Church Communication Network. Panelists will address a biblical perspective on the need for Christian action in Darfur and practical steps for how to make a difference. Speakers will include John Prendergast and Omer Ismail, along with ministers George Barna, Suzette Caldwell, John Ortberg, and Michael Slaughter. Congo Campaign In Atlanta for International Women's Day
RAISE Hope for Congo Campaign Manager Candice Knezevic and Enough Co-founder John Prendergast spoke at several International Women's Day events in Atlanta sponsored by Dialogue: Start One, a nonprofit organization that partners with NGOs to raise awareness of issues in the developing world. The founders, Stephanie Jolluck and Jackie Patterson (pictured at left with Knezevic, far left, and Prendergast, far right) designed a RAISE Hope for Congo t-shirt; visit their website to order one, and visit www.raisehopeforcongo.org to learn more about participating in the Congo Challenge for activists that kicks off April 1.

- Download The Catholic Companion and Discussion Guide to Not On Our Watch, featuring readings from Roman Catholic scriptures and teachings to engage Catholic activists in the Sudan crisis. The 47-page booklet is available free of charge at www.darfurchristianaction.org
- Take a pledge against genocide and participate in a variety of other consciousness-raising activities during April, Genocide Prevention Month.
- Take the opportunity to contact your Congressman and Senators during the April 6 to 17 recess. Call their local offices today to set up a meeting to discuss Sudan and the crisis in Darfur.
