Rushing to New Risks in Somalia

Somali Woman

Somali political figures are meeting this
week in
Djibouti in an effort to select a new parliament and a new president to replace Abdullahi Yusuf, who resigned under pressure in December 2008. This could represent an important step forward in promoting reconciliation, but not the way it has been managed to date.

Enough Delivers Petition on Congo to Obama

Emmanuelle Chriqui
Congo campaign spokesperson and television and film star Emmanuelle Chriqui

On President Barack Obama's first day in office, the Enough Project delivered a petition signed by more than 40,000 concerned Americans, asking him to take action to halt the epidemic of sexual violence in Congo. This, the largest call ever by U.S. activists for action on Congo, underscores the growth of the Congo activist movement.

Darfur from Day One
Enough is partnering on a campaign to convince the Obama administration to take notice of "Darfur From Day One." We believe it's crucial that addressing the situation in Sudan be an immediate priority for President Obama. LEARN more about the campaign.

Congo Warlords: Nkunda Arrested, Lubanga on Trial

Thomas Lubanga

Thomas Lubanga

Read about the serious implications of the joint operations of Rwanda and Congo, as senior Tutsi rebel commander Laurent Nkunda has recently been apprehended. Nkunda's former chief of staff, Bosco Ntganda, already under indictment by the ICC for war crimes, has been given a lead role on the ground. Meanwhile, former rebel leader Thomas Lubanga pleaded not guilty to ICC charges of coercing children into becoming soldiers at a landmark trial at which some former child soldiers are scheduled to testify.

Peace and Development Process Sought for Chad

Chad

Policy recommendations from a coalition of organizations on how the U.S. can better address the crisis in Chad agree with what Enough has long argued: Although the violence in eastern Chad is in part due to spillover from neighboring Darfur, Chad must also come to terms with its own unique political crisis. Read Enough's policy recommendations here.

Post-Colonial Africa's Biggest Land Deal

Enough research associate David Sullivan discussed a report in the Financial Times, noting that Jarch Capital, "an investment firm led by financier Philip Heilberg (which includes several former United States government officials on its board of directors) has leased a jaw-dropping 4,000 square kilometers of arable land-approximately the size of Dubai -- in southern Sudan."

Enough is a project of the Center for American Progress to end genocide and crimes against humanity. Founded in 2007, Enough focuses on the crises in Sudan, Chad, eastern Congo, northern Uganda, Somalia and Zimbabwe. Enough's strategy papers and briefings provide sharp field analysis and targeted policy recommendations based on a "3P" crisis response strategy: promoting durable peace, providing civilian protection, and punishing perpetrators of atrocities. Enough works with concerned citizens, advocates, and policy makers to prevent, mitigate, and resolve these crises.
