Briefing: Banking on War: Ending the abuse of South Sudan’s banking sector by political elites and pushing for peace

November 30, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

According to researcher Mark Ferullo, the same banks that you and I use to send money to a friend or to pay a bill can be indirectly used by kleptocrats in South Sudan to send their ill-gotten gains abroad or buy opulent houses overseas. At this briefing, Mark will explain the way through which South Sudan’s banks, which serve as the gateways for the movement of the proceeds of corruption into the same banks we use, are interconnected in the global financial system and analyze the political influence which South Sudan accesses the global financial system.
