The Enough Project and its partner investigative initiative The Sentry seek an experienced Editor responsible for executing and managing a comprehensive editorial, review, and quality assurance process for all reports, policy briefs, presentations, and other written materials.


As lead editor, the Editor will work directly with investigators and report authors, in collaboration with team managers, policy leads, and other relevant staff, to produce high quality and high impact reports and other written materials to engage a range of audiences, from experts and policymakers to journalists, influencers, and the general public.

General Editing:

  • Edit products published by the Enough Project and its partner The Sentry
  • Edit proposals and reports for the Development department
  • Ensure alignment of written products with agreed policy frameworks and language, strategic objectives, and core mission
  • Ensure main idea and policy points are presented in a clear and powerful manner
  • Strengthen structure, organization, and appropriate sequencing of argument and content
  • Flag assertions needing citation and provide research support when possible; check facts and quotes cited in public sources
  • Evaluate, challenge, and bolster, as appropriate, the logic, coherence, and consistency of facts and arguments presented by author(s)
  • Strengthen flow, coherence, and clarity
  • Correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, word choice
  • Ensure alignment of text and citations with in-house style and Associated Press style
  • Perform desk research as needed to bolster or enhance arguments or evidence in drafts

Coaching and Mentoring:

  • Work with writers of varying skills and experience
  • Review and give constructive feedback at every stage of a product, from conception to final draft
  • Work with writers to improve key writing skills including:
    – Storytelling and structure
    – Readability and reader engagement
    – Persuasion and impactful writing

Project management

  • Manage editorial process for all reports from conception through to final product, working with Policy, Investigations, Communications, and Development Directors and teams
  • Manage production process and coordinate with all stakeholders to ensure reviews and revisions occur
  • Manage freelance editors
  • Coordinate legal review and revision of written products as needed
  • Set production timelines, negotiating priorities, schedules, and expectations
  • Review and give guidance on research proposals and outlines
  • Manage products to deadline by communicating and collaborating with other departments to ensure timely and efficient production and publication of products
  • Track progress of editorial products and update Directors and teams as requested
  • Collaborate across time zones with global colleagues when necessary
  • Coordinate and host regular weekly product status meetings with a cross-team working group
  • Routinely engage with senior leadership to update them and seek their input
  • Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and schedules

Quality Assurance:

  • Manage and maintain strict version control on reports and other written products
  • Maintain and update in-house stylebook, and ensure authors adherence to style rules


  • Engage in administrative and organizational tasks as necessary
  • Take on occasional writing projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 4-5 years working in a professional editing role
  • Superior writing, copyediting, and proofreading skills
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively in teams
  • Good humor and general problem-solving skills.
  • Organized and effective working in a fast-paced, rapid-response environment, balancing multiple projects and tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Committed to the Enough Project’s and The Sentry’s missions and goals

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • International experience and foreign language skills, especially French or Arabic, are a big plus
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field
