January 2008 Activist Call

Date:Jan 24, 2008
Location:Worldwide

ENOUGH, STAND, GI-Net, and Save Darfur's Monthly Activist Call will be held on January 24th at 3:00 p.m. (E.S.T.). If you would like to be a part of the call, please fill out the form at the link below.

As we begin the new year, Jerry Fowler, the new Executive Director of the Save Darfur Coalition, will take a step back and look at where we are in 2008. What is the current situation on the ground in Sudan and what are the policy goals and objectives for the activist movement in 2008?

ENOUGH will release its newest report on January 24th on the controversial region of Abyei, straddling the border of North and South Sudan. Co-author, Roger Winter will join the call to discuss this topic in greater detail.

The international community has overpromised and undelivered to UNAMID. The force is already facing an uphill battle against the Government of Sudan, and by failing to properly equip the peacekeeping force with helicopters and logistics, the international community is leaving UNAMID in a position to fail. This failure will be disastrous for Sudan and puts other future African peacekeeping missions at risk. ENOUGH Policy Advisor, Colin Thomas-Jensen, will discuss what is needed to provide UNAMID with the proper logistics and equipment.

Special guest, Katie-Jay Scott of Stop Genocide Now will call in from Chad to tell you about the I-ACT project.

Ask the Candidates had a strong presence in Iowa and New Hampshire, and Colin Christensen of the Genocide Intervention Network will let you know what the campaign has planned for the upcoming primary in South Carolina and how activists can participate.

STAND will hold its regional conferences every weekend in February. Executive Director, Scott Warren, will be on the line to let you know what and who you can expect to see at the conferences in Maryland, California, Texas, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Ohio.
