Key Juncture in U.S. Engagement with Congo Sparks Student Rally at White House – Join Us
With election-related violence on the rise, and experts highlighting some encouraging trends, as well as apparent challenges, connected to the increased focus on the trade in conflict minerals from the East, now is a key moment for the U.S. government to ramp up its engagement in Congo.
Next Monday, November 21, the George Washington University STAND chapter is hosting a rally for students, activists, human rights organizations, and members of the African diaspora community to come together in a show of solidarity with the Congolese people and to demonstrate to the Obama administration that this constituency will not rest until there is real peace in Congo. Join GW STAND and the Raise Hope for Congo campaign on Monday to call for U.S. engagement that will bring peace to eastern Congo.
Raise Hope for Congo’s JD Stier will be speaking at the rally.
WHEN: Monday, November 21 beginning at 12 p.m.
WHERE: The group will gather in Kogan Plaza on GW’s campus (21st and H St. NW) at noon and walk over to the White House by 2 p.m. Students at GW will be making signs and posters before the start of the rally, so feel free to stop by early and lend a hand!
WHY: To raise awareness about the ongoing conflict in Congo to demonstrate to our government that we as constituents are urging them to make this war a political priority.
