This weekend George Clooney will again leverage his star power, this time in a feature, “I Spy: George Clooney turns long-lens photography into a force for good, aiming satellites at human-rights violations in Sudan” by John Horn in the LA Times Magazine. The article, online now, will appear in the Sunday Edition of the LA Times.

A political showdown in Sudan is imminent as both the ruling National Congress Party, or NCP, and the newly formed Sudan Revolutionary Front, or SRF, attempt to enlist more support from undecided opposition parties in Sudan. Soon enough all Sudanese political parties may face a dilemma: either accept the ruling NCP government or become part of the opposition coalition—a political contest that may have the potential to divide the country into two major political forces.

Yesterday, Laurent Gbagbo became the first former head of state taken into custody by the International Criminal Court since the ICC’s establishment in 2002. While ICC prosecutors have previously issued arrest warrants for heads of state, namely Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and former Libyan Leader Moammar Qaddafi, Gbagbo’s arrival at the ICC’s detention center is a seminal moment for the ICC as it solidifies its position as an arbiter of international justice.

The latest Satellite imagery collected on November 27 by the Satellite Sentinel Project shows evidence of the intentional destruction of structures in ‘Amara Village, located in the border state of Blue Nile, Sudan.
